Piel was born in the Black Forest in 2001. At elementary school, he wanted to be a rock star, but then swapped his guitar for his dad's video camera due to a lack of singing talent and made his first short films. He studied audiovisual media with a focus on film at Stuttgart Media University and at California State University, Los Angeles with a scholarship of the Baden-Wuerttemberg foundation. Right now, he is studying Directing at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg.
